★FALLKNIVEN Falkniven★

FALLKNIVEN is a Swedish knife manufacturer. It became famous when its "F1" series was adopted as a survival knife for pilots of the Swedish Air Force. The blade has a laminated structure that sandwiches two different types of steel, making the most of the strengths of each steel while compensating for their weaknesses, resulting in a well-balanced knife. These excellent laminated blades are made in Japan by Hattori Hamono in Seki City, Gifu Prefecture.

This knife has a convex grind (clamshell blade). Using a convex sharpener makes it very fun and easy to maintain a sharp and beautiful blade.

★Falkniven A1★

The A1 series is a large sheath knife categorized as a "survival knife." It is a little large, so it is suitable for chopping and splitting firewood. If you want to do everything with one knife, this size is convenient. Since it is assumed that it will never break, the blade is full thickness up to the middle, and the convex grind starts from the middle. Since the blade itself is solidly heavy, it has an advantage in chopping power compared to the "NL3L" of the same size. The tang is also full tang and sturdy. The full tang of this product is resistant to rust because the steel is not exposed above and below the handle. On the other hand, the "NL3L" of the same size starts grinding at a shallow angle from the top of the blade (back), making it easy to use for "shaving" work, and the knife itself is lightweight.

★A1Pro★

The A1 already has high specs as a survival knife, but the A1Pro was released in the fall of 2015 after further reviewing various aspects to make it a more reliable survival knife. The blade width, blade thickness, and handle are larger than the standard A1, making it easier to handle. In addition, the metal hilt not only gives the knife a more compact silhouette, but also prevents the Thermorun handle from being crushed even if you make a slight batoning mistake. The steel used for the blade is Lam.CoS (laminated cobalt steel), which is made by sandwiching cobalt steel, which is used in high-end knives in Japan, between the highly versatile 420J2 stainless steel. This steel is used in the SK series by the company, and is said to be harder and have better edge retention than the VG10 steel used in the standard A1.

★Accessories★

The Pro series also comes with a full complement of standard accessories. It is housed in a special waterproof hard plastic case, and inside it are the knife itself, a newly designed Zytel sheath, and the popular DC4 field sharpener, all sitting neatly. The newly designed Zytel sheath is larger than the standard, but belt loops have been added to both sides of the part where the hilt fits, making it easier to attach to a belt or bag. Another nice feature is that it comes with a ceramic and diamond sharpener "DC4", which is just the right size for touching up in the field.

★The story of Peter Fällkniven's founder★

What makes the "F1" so special is that it is a completely new design concept. The survival knives of 1978 were very similar to the double-edged combat knives used in World War II. The "F1" knife is small, but it has been the main equipment of the Swedish Air Force's Saab 39 Gripen fighter for 30 years. Recently (as of September 2014), the Swedish government decided to purchase 60 more aircraft.

In 1995, folding knives were incredibly popular, and several American and European knife manufacturers were making folding knives, but no sheath knives were being produced. This prompted us to venture into a new field, and we have been the number one manufacturer of sheath knives in the world ever since. The F1 knife is based on the design philosophy of a hunting knife. It is safe, non-slip even when wet, comfortable to hold, and fits most palms. The laminated stainless steel is very strong, and the blade steel is VG10, so the blade is less likely to chip and stays sharp for a long time.

For the "F1" we offer two types of sheaths, leather and plastic, but we usually recommend the plastic sheath because it is safer, neater, stronger, more hygienic and cheaper. What makes the F1 knife special (and all our sheath knives) is that it is hand sharpened. Only skilled craftsmen are allowed to sharpen the convex grind (clam blade). The convex grind edge is strong, sharp and durable, ideal for survival. Some of our military knives are listed in the NATO catalog, and since 2000, the F1 and S1 knives have been officially adopted by the US Navy and US Marine Corps pilots.

We understand that words of appreciation from all over the world mean our knives are used by elite soldiers. Our "standard" FI, laminated with VG10 steel (with 420J2 steel sandwiched on the outside), has been our best seller, with over 100,000 sold to date (compared to 400,000 Ontario M9 bayonets issued to every soldier in the U.S. military since 1984).

If I remember correctly, our knives have been officially adopted in Sweden, Norway, Finland, Holland, Poland, Russia, and the United States, and other countries are planning to adopt them. I can't remember exactly, but these are the countries that spring to mind. The tang (the part that connects the knife and handle) is hidden inside the handle, but it is a very strong tang that is close to a full tang, and the distance from the grip surface to the tang is less than 3 mm, and it protrudes from the grip end.

If the tang were to protrude beyond the surface of the handle, the knife would become unusable, but since the guarantee rate is less than 1 in 10,000, there is no need to worry too much about this.
