Asemi Co. Matsushiro Ware Cup, Teacup

Asemico's Matsushiro-yaki teacups are an attractive item that combines timeless design with pottery techniques that have more than 400 years of history. Each cup is unique because it is handmade by artisans. In addition, it is safe to use because it uses natural glazes.

This Matsushiro-yaki cup comes in two sizes, small (S) and large (L). The small size is 7cm in diameter, 6cm in height, and holds 100ml, while the large size is 7cm in diameter, 10cm in height, and holds 230ml. Both sizes are perfect for enjoying Japanese tea, coffee, or sake.

The beautiful colors and warmth of the handmade workmanship of Matsushiro ware cups will soothe and relax the drinker. Use them for your favorite coffee time or tea party to create a luxurious moment. The large cups are also perfect for enjoying iced coffee or iced tea.

It is easy to clean, just rinse with water and wipe dry. However, please note that it is not dishwasher or microwave safe.

Matsushiro ware

Matsushiro in Shinshu is a castle town surrounded by mountains on the remaining three sides and a natural moat formed by the Chikuma River to the north. The famous Battle of Kawanakajima was fought here.

During the Edo period, it became the castle of the Sanada clan, whose first leader was Sanada Yukimura's older brother Nobuyuki, and the history of the Matsushiro domain with its 100,000 koku of rice yield began.

In the latter part of the Edo period, during the reign of the seventh lord, Kosen, the domain purchased the already smoking Meigaku kiln and put a lot of effort into its industrial development.

After that, kilns were opened one after another, and records show that there were seven kilns in total, including private kilns. At the time, it was the largest pottery production area in the prefecture, and was unrivaled in both quantity and quality. However, after the Meiji period, it gradually declined, and with the development of transportation, it was pushed out by the influx of mass-produced goods from other production areas, and temporarily ceased at the beginning of the Showa period.

In recent years, thanks to the efforts of many people, ceramic clay and manufacturing methods have been revived, and their rustic charm is being rediscovered.
