Six Moon Designs
Six Moon Designs' "Six Moon" was named after the fact that it takes about six months to complete the 4,279 km Pacific Crest Trail (PCT). When brand owner Ron Moak experienced the PCT in 2000, he felt a strong need for lightweight gear, which inspired him to create innovative ultra-lightweight gear.
[Brand Story]
Ever since his first backpacking experience on the Appalachian Trail in high school, brand owner Ron Moak has been completely captivated by it. A few years later, he set out on the 3,500km Appalachian Trail with his wife Linda in the summer of 1977. Inspired by hikers like Grandma Gatewood, Ron and Linda began making their own hiking gear and completed the PCT in 2000.
In May 2002, Six Moon Designs produced its first product, the Europa Tent. The Europa Tent met various criteria, such as being lightweight yet sturdy, easy to set up, and reasonably priced, making it a tent that is suitable for a wide range of use, including in the backcountry. Since then, the company has released a series of innovative products, including the Starlight Pack, Gatewood Cape, and Luna Solo. Ron is one of the few hikers to have achieved the Triple Crown. His extensive experience on the trails has led to the development of excellent gear for all those who enjoy the outdoors. Six Moon Designs is based in Portland, Oregon, USA.

SIX MOON DESIGNS Gatewood Cape 2018 Tarp/Poncho Solo Tarp Poncho 300g 1 person Bivy
A tent with a good design that can also be used as rain gear. The weather in the mountains is changeable, so while preparing for a hike, you will probably think, "It's probably going to be sunny, but I should bring rain gear as insurance." Here are some interesting items that you can be proud of, as they serve as a rain jacket, backpack cover, and tent. The Gatewood Cape can be worn as a rain jacket. If you keep it in a place where you can easily access your backpack, you can wear it while walking without taking off your backpack. It's tough when walking along windy ridges, but it works well as rain gear for hiking in forests and light rain. It's made of Silnylon, so it gets steamy compared to highly permeable materials, but if you pull up the center zipper or think about how to wear the hood, it's comfortable and less likely to get damp. The Gatewood Cape can also be used as a tent. If you use trekking poles or fallen trees as supports, you can use it as a tent. It's large enough to provide enough space for migration even when it's raining. It's very durable against wind, and the sense of security when using it is particularly noteworthy. If you attach the optional inner tent, it can be used as a double-wall tent with a large vestibule, with a total weight of 540g.
300g is the weight of a light rain jacket. If you add the weight of a conventional tent and backpack cover to this, the total weight should be about 1.5kg. Although many parts are sacrificed in order to fulfill all the roles of this item, using it wisely will help to dramatically reduce the total weight of your backpack. With a lighter load, you can continue hiking without stress.
In the summer, you can combine it with the seculity net tent (sold separately) to use it as a tent with a mosquito net and floor. The airy design provides coolness that is free from the oppressive heat of summer.
Gatewood Cape 300g 2018 Gatewood Cape Tarp/Poncho
Gatewood Cape has been redesigned
-Weight is 284g (excluding harness), 15% lighter than previous models
- Pack volume reduced by 40%
- The shape and area are the same as the previous model.
- Available in two colors: green, which is a darker green than the previous product (see photo)
The Gatewood Cape can be used as a bivy, tarp or cape. It's a 3 in 1 product! You can also combine it with the Serenity Net Tent to create a 1 person tent. Even in that case, it weighs less than 650g! Whether you wear it as a cape or use it as a shelter, you're completely covered with the Gatewood Cape's unique 360 degree protection.
The cape does not have long side slits like a poncho. A poncho may be more breathable, but it cannot keep the rain out. The double zipper on the front of the Gatewood Cape allows ventilation while still providing full protection. The open skirt design also allows fresh air to enter from underneath. Compared to traditional ponchos and tarps as a shelter, the Gatewood Cape offers significantly enhanced protection.
Rain and snow are repelled, and wind flows around the outside. There is no need to quickly change the direction of the shelter in the middle of the night due to a sudden change in wind direction, and there is no need to crawl into a bivy. Unlike a tarp, the Gatewood Cape has no exposed sides, so you can stay safe and secure. With a canopy of 3.2 m2, you won't have any trouble finding a place to store your gear.
You can also adjust the height of the vestibule to suit the conditions and provide additional ventilation. The long zipper makes opening and closing the shelter a breeze. The Gatewood Cape is perfect for the seven tools of any adventurous hiker. With the Gatewood Cape, which packs down extremely small, you can rest assured that you have great protection close at hand.

- Do not scratch or use fire on the tent fabric.
- When opening the tent entrance or windows, be careful of insects and small animals.
- Lighting a fire inside a tent is dangerous and should never be done.
