DIETZ Hurricane Lantern D78 Rose Gold
REDIETZ was founded in Brooklyn, New York in 1840 as a lighting manufacturer. Since its founding, the company has focused on developing pioneering manufacturing technologies to meet market needs, and has received numerous awards and patents. Although the company is now famous for its oil lanterns, in the early 1900s it rose to become a major manufacturer in the automotive lighting industry. In order to reduce production costs and expand market share, the company moved its factory from New York to Hong Kong in 1956, and then moved its facilities from Hong Kong to mainland China in 1988. Deitz's policy of providing high-quality and reliable lanterns at affordable prices has earned it a high reputation in the lantern industry, and the company has established excellent brand recognition and image.
#78
The D78 is the most popular model among the current Deitz hurricane lanterns. It is a slightly larger model than the original D76, but it is not too big and still has a strong presence. The burner uses a rising cone type, making it easy to trim the wick and light it. It uses a 4-minute wick, so it gives off a faint light of about 7 candela, but it is a lamp that is just right for creating an outdoor scene.

How to use and precautions for use
■ How to fill the fuel tank
Place the lantern on a flat surface, remove the fuel filler cap, and pour lantern paraffin oil (or white kerosene) into the container's filler hole. (Do not fill the container to the full or nearly full. This may cause the fuel to overflow.) After adding the appropriate amount of fuel, attach the fuel filler cap securely.
■ Ignition
After the fuel has soaked into the wick, push down the lever and place it on the notch to stop the lever. Light the wick with a match, return the lever to its original position, and turn the flame adjustment knob to adjust the length of the wick so that no soot appears on the top. *If the flame is too strong, the glass cap may break. Please be careful.
■ Firefighting
When extinguishing the fire, turn the heat control knob to turn off the flame and make sure it is completely extinguished. *Please be careful not to lower the wick too far as it may come off and fall into the tank.
Precautions for use of Dietz lantern
[Replacing the glass cap, wick, and burner]
Has a carrying handle.
1. With the hand holding the carrying handle, hold the top ring and pull up the top hood.
2. Use your other hand to slowly push the sea squirt towards the back.
When replacing the wick or burner, hold the flame adjustment knob and turn it clockwise toward the fuel filler port to remove the burner. When replacing the glass, pull the glass out from the glass support wire while it is tilted to the back.
[About burns]
When using the lantern, the top hood and top ring become particularly hot. Do not touch them as they may cause burns.
[About fuel]
Be sure to use our paraffin oil (sold separately) or white kerosene (kerosene used in home heating appliances, etc.) as fuel. Never use gasoline, white gasoline, alcohol, or other highly volatile or flammable fuels.
[Place of use]
Never use in a tent, car, or other poorly ventilated areas.
When using indoors, pay special attention to the risk of fire and ventilation.
Do not place flammable or heat-sensitive items near the burner while it is burning.
If you are using it by hanging it, hang it vertically on a sturdy, heat-resistant surface.
It is dangerous, so never leave it within reach of children.
[About packaging]
This is a special package for genuine products in Japan.
This package will be required for returns and exchanges due to initial defects, etc.
We ask that you also prepare a receipt from the store where you purchased the item, or something that shows your purchase history.
[About the Sea Squirt]
There are individual differences in sea squirt glasses.
There may be some tilt (distortion), air bubbles of about 1 to 2 cm, scratches, faded logos, or poor printing.
These items that have no problems in terms of practical use will be considered genuine and will not be eligible for exchange or return.
[About oil leaks]
The Deitz hurricane lantern, which has the same specifications as over 100 years ago, is not as user-friendly as modern products.
The oil tank is not completely sealed, so if too much oil is added, it may leak from the oil filler port or the base of the stay (arm).
Please use this product in places where it is not a problem if oil leaks, such as outdoors or on metal plates.
[About the top hood tilt]
Due to its structure, the top hood is not completely parallel to the body, but has a slight tilt.
Depending on the individual unit, there may be cases where the tilt is significant, but this can be reduced to some extent by rotating the top hood.
Exchanges and returns due to the tilt of the top hood will not be accepted.
[About painting and plating]
There may be some unevenness in the painting and plating due to the production process.
There may be unevenness or paint peeling, especially on the edge of the fuel filler cap, the underside of the hood, and areas that are only visible when the cylindrical part of the hood is pulled up.
In addition, there may be some rust due to paint peeling during the process from factory to import.
Even with plated models, there may be variations in the color of the plating, stains, dirt, or roughness.
Due to the nature of the product, any items that have no problems in terms of practical use will be considered genuine and will not be eligible for exchange or return.
[About the body, frame and burner]
The glass holder on the glass support wire may be asymmetrical on the left and right sides.
The plate on which the sea squirt glass is placed may be tilted toward the burner.
The lever used to lift the sea squirt glass may not get caught in the notch.
The arms (the left and right tubular supports) may not be at the same angle on the left and right sides.
There may be small scratches or dents of about 1 cm on the tank or hood.
These items that have no problems in terms of practical use will be considered genuine and will not be eligible for exchange or return.
