Hasami ware

Hasami ware is a type of ceramic ware made in Hasami Town, located in the northeastern part of Nagasaki Prefecture. Its history is long, dating back to the Edo period about 400 years ago. When Hasami first opened, it produced pottery, but after the discovery of high-quality porcelain raw materials, it shifted to making porcelain, mainly blue and white porcelain and celadon. In the late Edo period, Hasami became the number one producer of blue and white porcelain in Japan, and porcelain became popular as everyday ware for the common people, who had previously been unable to afford it. In the Edo period, Hasami ware was shipped from Imari Port, so it was known as Imari ware, and in the Meiji period, it was shipped from Arita Station, as it was close to Arita Town in Saga Prefecture, the birthplace of Arita ware, so it was distributed as Arita ware for a long time. Recently, due to the stricter labeling of production areas, Hasami ware is now distributed under the name Hasami ware. Hasami ware is produced by dividing the work into different processes: molding, modeling, glazing, and kiln firing. As a result, mass production is possible with high technology and productivity.
