Miner's Lamp
The History of Miner's Lamps (Safety Lamps)
The miner's lamp was a revolutionary invention in the history of coal mining. Before Humphry Davy developed the miner's lamp in 1815, miners used candles. There were frequent accidents where exposed candle flames ignited gas in the coal mines, causing explosions and resulting in deaths. In England, 160 people died in 1814 alone.
The original oil lamp, the Davy Lamp, had a structure with a white wire mesh on top and a glass bottom. He discovered that if the air needed for the flame was supplied from the wire mesh at the top and flammable gas was burned inside the lamp at the same time, the gas outside the lamp would not ignite or explode. However, this was dangerous when the wire mesh got too hot or a strong wind blew and exposed the fire, so later lamps were fitted with a cover to protect against wind. This is how the miner's lamp came to look like this product. Another function of the miner's lamp is gas detection. Gas can be determined by the size of the flame, and the denser the gas, the bluer the flame. The miner's lamp made underground work for coal mining safer, but on the other hand, some commanders tried to force Davy into dangerous gas-filled places that he had not been able to go before, so some people resented Davy. However, there were also voices praising him, and he said the following.
"When I lived in the north, nothing was more moving than receiving letters of thanks from miners and their families telling me how much I had saved their lives and livelihoods," Davie said. "I just wanted to save people's lives, even if it was just a little," he said, declining to patent the miner's lamp, which would have been extremely valuable. The appearance of the lamp has changed significantly since then, but its main structure remains the same.
★How to use★
1. Remove the base of the lamp by turning it counterclockwise.
2. Remove the wick and nozzle to create the spout for the tank.
3. Add up to 20ml of paraffin oil to the fuel tank.
(The maximum tank capacity is 30ml, but if you fill it almost to the top, the fuel may overflow when you put the wick back in.)
4. The wick should not protrude more than 2mm from the nozzle.
5. Return the wick and nozzle back into the tank.
6. Once lit, return the base to the lamp.
★How to erase★
1. Blow out the vent behind the lamp.
(Please be careful as the lamp gets very hot.)
★Notes★
1. Using anything other than paraffin oil in a lamp is extremely dangerous. Under no circumstances should you use anything other than the oil specifically designed for it.
2. Do not use this lamp for any purpose other than providing light.
3. This product is sturdy enough to be used in coal mines, but the internal structure required for use in coal mines filled with flammable gases is unnecessary and has been omitted, making it affordable and lightweight. Please do not use this product in environments where there is a risk of fire, such as in gas-filled areas, as it is dangerous.
We recommend using a metal polishing agent for cleaning.
