・The albatross, a majestic seabird that flies over the sea.

Albatross

Albatrosses have a wingspan of up to 2.4m. They breed on islands in the Pacific Ocean and lay only one egg at a time. It is said that they mate for life. They use the winds blowing over the ocean to fly in repeated arcs and catch fish, squid, and other creatures. They were once thought to be extinct, but were rediscovered on Torishima Island in the Izu Islands, and conservation efforts are ongoing.

A story of plastic waste and albatrosses

Even if you think you have properly disposed of plastic waste, it can fall out of garbage bags or be blown away by the wind and end up in the ocean without you knowing, polluting the sea. Albatrosses are said to ingest the most plastic out of all seabirds, and currently, albatrosses and many other creatures are being affected by marine pollution. As a first step in solving this problem, each of us needs to reduce our use of disposable plastic. Why not try using your own bottles and bags for drinking water and shopping, which are necessary in daily life?
